The website Smartmania has brought encouraging news for everyone who wants to use their smartphone to its full potential. Google’s March updates suggest another step toward a future where smartphones could replace traditional laptops.

While most improvements will happen almost unnoticed, the March “Pixel Drop”, which upgrades Google Pixel phones, includes several interesting changes. One of the most notable is the desktop mode on the phone, which until now was available only in developer options.
This feature is available for Pixel 8 smartphones and newer, and it can be compared to the Samsung DeX environment found on Samsung phones. Using a USB-C connector, you can connect the phone through a hub to a monitor. A classic desktop interface then appears on the screen. This means it is not simple screen mirroring, as we have been used to until now. Applications can run in separate windows and be used similarly to how you work in Windows.
If you want to take this concept even further and turn your phone into a full-fledged workstation, the AXAGON HMC-KB-US docking station may come in handy. It combines a USB-C hub with a keyboard, allowing you to easily connect a monitor and other accessories to your phone, such as an external drive, headphones, or a mouse—everything you would normally use when working on a computer.
